The Monkey Feastival (F)lopburi, Thailand
- This event is a promotional spectacle by a single hotel in town. The 3-pronged temple was built during the Khmer's occupation and control of this area about 1.000 years ago. Macaque monkeys always inhabited these plains and the ruins became their refuge when the surrounding city developed. We have visited this temple o...n several trips before and can recommend to anybody, interested in Khmer culture or Macaques. You can study them well here on 364 days of the year, do not come for this during the feastival, when loudspeakers and guests make them hide up in the ruins. The event schedule is neither posted on the net, nor do the organizers answer emails about it. At 2:00 p.m. trucks enter the compound and ferry off all people and entertainers. This hotel promotion draws maybe 150 to 200 guests, mainly locals. About 20 foreigners traveled here for this, as the promotional event is advertised by TAT.
